What is a Pontoon Boat?
Pontoon boats are flat shaped boats that are able to float by having two to three cyclinders (or pontoons) that are mounted to the bottom of the deck. Are there any negatives to owning a pontoon boat?
The only downside about pontoon boats is that they are not made to go out in the ocean or the big lake water, if you do go out into the water make sure that the lakes are not rough. The bow of a pontoon boat is so short all it takes is a 3 or 4 foot wave to crash over the bow. The pontoon boat wont sink but you and the passengers can get wet, they are not deisgned for rough seas.
What size of Pontoon boat should I get?
If your looking into what size pontoon boat to buy the smaller ones are about 18ft, and they can comfortably hold about 8-10 people. The larger ones, 24ft, can hold up to 16 or more people. If you would like to test out a pontoon boat there are lots of lots of configurations to shoose from and the best way to know is to rent one out either half day or full day, and see if it's what you are looking for.
Should I look at a new pontoon boat or a used pontoon boat?
There are tons of great deals in the market on pontoon boats, the thing is no matter how good of a deal you are getting you should make sure that you deal with a dealer that has experience with Pontoon boats first of all, a dealer that will stand behind the product and always look for a boat with a name that is known for quality. Pontoon Boats and Deck Boats - the only similarity these two boats have are there large decks, after that, they are a whole lot different. We'll start with Pontoon Boats. These types of Boats are known for there spacious decks, comfortable chairs and couches and lazy, slow cruising. The Pontoon is big enough to have your Family Reunion on the Water! Have a Deck Party! What's the difference between a Pontoon boat and a Deck boat?
The differences are definately getting smaller. Originally Pontoon boats were large, flat, platforms with lots of comfort and limited performance capabilities while Deck boats had superior performance and a little less comfort. Today the state of both has come a long way. With the advent of performance add-ons like Tri-toons, aluminum underskin and lifting strakes, Pontoon boat performance can equal and even exceed that of a deck boat. Speeds of 40mph plus are not uncommon and 70mph can be obtained on some models. Deck boats have evolved to the point where they can rival some Pontoon boats in their seating capacity and creature comforts. If you lean more towards performance and competitive skiing a deck boat might make more sense but if you just want to enjoy the water and every facet of it, you just cant beat aPontoon boat for relaxation, comfort, safety and ease of use. Either way get one or the other and start enjoying the water.
